Diana Home Daycare Allergies

Many families have questions about food allergies and how we handle them at daycare. At Diana Daycare we take food safety very seriously and follow clear routines to support children with allergies and sensitivities.

Our goal is to provide children with a safe and calm environment in which to enjoy their meals and snacks.

Nut aware and allergy aware

We are a nut-aware environment. This means:

  • We do not knowingly serve foods that contain peanuts or tree nuts
  • We ask families not to send foods with nuts from home
  • We watch for “may contain” warnings on ingredient labels

In addition, we follow each child’s specific allergy plan, which may include other foods such as eggs, dairy or certain fruits.

How we manage food allergies

To help keep children safe, we:

  • Collect detailed allergy information during enrollment
  • Post clear allergy alerts for educators in food and classroom areas
  • Read ingredient labels carefully before serving food
  • Use clean utensils and surfaces to avoid cross-contact
  • Seat children with allergies in safe spots as needed

If a child has a prescribed emergency plan, Diana is trained to follow it and know where emergency medication is stored.

Communication with families

Good communication is key. We ask families to:

  • Inform us right away if there are new allergies or changes
  • Review and sign any allergy care plans we provide
  • Check that the emergency medication sent from home is in date
  • Ask questions if anything on the menu is unclear

We will let you know in advance about menu changes or special treats so we can confirm what is safe for your child.

Teaching children healthy habits

We also help children learn simple, age-appropriate habits, such as:

  • Washing hands before and after eating
  • Keeping food on their own plate
  • Not sharing cups or utensils

These habits support both allergy safety and general health.

Working together for safety

Allergy management works best when families, educators and our kitchen team work as a team. If your child has an allergy or you suspect one, please talk to us. We will listen carefully, follow your child’s care plan and keep you informed.

If you have any questions about our allergy-aware kitchen, please contact us. We are happy to explain our routines and how they apply to your child.
